Essential DM Screen for Lesbo Geeks!

You know how it is. You’re the ultimate gaming geek girl in your mind and you and your group of lesbo friends want to hang out and play a little D&D. All sounds fairly straight forward doesn’t it, but as well all know, it’s nice to add a little bling into your D&D session when you can.

You whip out your extremely cool ‘Ultimate GM Screen’ that you bought from Fat Dragon Games and of course all the girls in the room swoon in your general direction. Oh yes my friends, you’ve just shown who is master of the gaming world and you want everyone to know it.

The funky screen has two dice towers, one that rolls towards the players and one that rolls towards the GM. It features a secret compartment where you can hide all your evil GM goodies from players and a handy pen holder also. If you’re trying to woo someone at your gay geek gaming group, this is certainly the way to go and can be yours for the paltry sum of $8.99 at RPG.now. Enjoy!

James Bond RPG - Retro review

Tabletop role-players used to have slim choice when it came to genre gaming and the spy genre was one that was thin on the ground in amongst all those elves, goblins and half orcs. The James Bond RPG was released  in 1983 by Victory Games and gave players the chance to become an agent in Her Majesty's Secret Service.

We're going to take a brief look at what made the James Bond 007 RPG game so appealing and what helped set it apart from a lot of other RPGs of the early eighties. Does it still stand up now and what's it like to don the guise of a Double 0 agent working magnanimously for her Majesty.

    Erick Wujcik passes on

Erick Wujcik was said by the people that new him to be a "game designer, writer, artist, originator of ideas, thinker and kind soul." and also "1) that he is a true game designing genius, and 2) that he is a true Bohemian." There is some game going on in the afterlife, what with Gary Gygax and now Erick Wujcik in that place - wherever that may be

Erick Wujcik designed tabletop RPGs and video games, he also co-founded Palladium Books - makers of games such as the eponymous Palladium, along with Heroes Unlimited, TMNT, Robotech and of course Rifts. In late November 2007 an otherwise healthy Wujcik went to the doctors with what he believed to be a cold, he was told he had aggressive pancreatic cancer and 5 weeks to live. On June 7 it was announced Erick had died, way outlasting doctors estimates - he must have rolled a critical. Godspeed gamesmaster, give Gary a nudge from us gamers.

Gary Gygax - RIP Dungeon Master

This is some sad news for role-playing geeks everywhere, beloved father of Dungeons & Dragons Gary Gygax died today at the age of 69. Gygax had been in poor health following a series of strokes and suspected heart attacks. He died at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Gary Gygax truly brought the RPG genre into being. As a kid he played LARP with pals and later went on to found TSR (Tactical Studies Rules), the company behind the Dungeons & Dragons RPG that he and friend Dave Arneson had designed. Gygax sparked imaginations, gave us licence to grow, evolve and experience true adventure and for that we owe him a huge debt of gratitude. May his journey from this life be filled with the magic he gave us.

"I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else."
    Gary Gygax.

    CthulhuTech RPG - Lovecraftian Mecha

It’s pretty cool to see something you’re a fan of take a new twist, as is the case here with CthulhuTech, a new RPG built on the Framewerk system. As the name suggests CthulhuTech is a combination of H. P. Lovecraft’s Call of Cthulhu setting and all those Mech styles such as Battletech, Evangelion and others.

If you’re a fan of either genre, or especially if you’re a fan of both, head over to the official CthulhuTech website and show some love. The artwork looks great and you can purchase a hard copy of the various books, or download them in .pdf format (make sure you pay if you get the full rules - sounds like some unscrupulous scum are passing out the system for free - someones heart and soul went into this and the effort shows - don't support piracy!).

It also looks like there are plenty of options for female characters (judging from the art work) and of course as it’s a role-playing game, one would imagine it’s OK to be gay! You can check out the game site HERE. Support independent game developers!

Oh if you're a Cthulhu fan and you missed our previous Cthulhu Movie coverage you can get to that HERE.

VTM - Criminal Intent noir scenario

Criminal Intent by White Wolf is an interactive storytelling adventure system (SAS) that delves into the Masquerade. The adventure deals with what happens when a devoted protector of the Masquerade hires your coterie to find dirt on an officer of the local court who got caught feeding, and to deal with the mortal artist who witnessed it. At first it looks like a straightforward job, but the whole situation is like digging into an old grave – there’s a lot under the surface that most people don’t want to see.

If you’re into your Vampire the Masquerade RPG and you’re looking for a quick adventure solution, you can download the Criminal Intent SAS from DriveThruRPG. The file if 12.21MB in size and will cost you $6.99- Not too bad for a full noir adventure you can print out, or be a flashy GM with a laptop on the table.

    Battlestar Galactica RPG books

If you’re a fan of Battlestar Galactica and a role-player (a real role-player—dice, pad, pen and friends) you might want to check out the Battlestar Galactica RPG that was release late last year. The game was released by Margaret Weis Productions and features your favorite BSG characters.

Coming this year are a plethora of additions to the Battlestar Galactica RPG, including the Battlestar Galactica Game Master’s Screen, Battlestar Galactica Adventures (an anthology of short adventures) and Battlestar Galactica: Colonial Military (this book will cover traditions, training and equipment used by the Colonial Fleet, along with Pegasus and crew details).
