Caprica finally gets the green light

Finally the Battlestar Galactica spin off series "Caprica" has been given the green light for full season production (starting mid next year, to air 2010. The first season will be 20 hours worth of pre-BSG goodness, or at least we hope goodness.

No word on if there'll be any gay characters in this one, though one would hope with the addition of Cain and Gaeta in BSG, if Caprica does get gay character(s) it won't be a big deal, it will just be the norm. Fingers crossed this series is good (gay characters or not!).

Coming out party for two in upcoming Battlestar Galactica

Contains outage spoiler: Remember all those months ago when we were talking about how we thought Felix Gaeta in Battlestar Galactica might be gay in out post "Is Felix Gay". Well apparently ... he is.

There's news just eeking out of Galactica Sitrep that two characters will be pashing up a storm in some upcoming webisodes and it's Gaeta and Hoshi. No big shock for Gaeta, but Hoshi?

Now we just have to time it before all the GAYtah jokes start rolling in, damn we did that months ago didn't we.

BBC reboots Survivors brings us sole lesbian Anya Raczynski

You may recall we mentioned the BBC reboot of "Survivors" way back in early June, well there's been some further information. As we mentioned then actress Zoe Tapper will be playing Dr Anya Raczynski in the series and she is apparently a lesbian.

Here's the character rundown: The character of Dr Anya Raczynski is a young doctor stretched beyond the limit of her capabilities by the onset of the plague. She does not appear in the original series. She is, however, the ex-partner of the young Patricia who shares a flat with Jenny - both of whom do appear in the original series.

Further info though it not so good. Sounds like Anya will be the usual "lone lesbian" onscreen given Pat now has a boyfriend and seems to die in the first episode. Nice one BBC, way to aid character growth. On the upside Julie Graham stars as one of the main characters. She appeared in the Guin Turner film "Preaching to the Perverted", but you probably would recognize her more from "At Home With the Braithwaites".

The 4400 complete series DVD boxed set releases

Heads up sci fi fans, tomorrow is the day "The 4400" complete series is release on DVD. If you missed the show when it was on TV, this is your chance to see it from the beginning.

The series dealt with 4400 missing people who return after various amounts of time being away. All of them return all at once, exactly as they were on the day they vanished. The government becomes involved (don't they always) and it appears the humans have returned a little different to when they left.

You can no doubt pick up the boxed set at your local DVD store. Worth a watch and it stars Marina - Karina Lombard - from the L Word in some episodes.

Gays in Star Trek - why no gay love in the Star Trek universe?

I was going to write a bit today about Star Trek and how disappointed I've always been that there has never been a gay character as part of the crew. This is of particular annoyance because science fiction should be the realm of openness and possible futures in which humanity gets some brains and things like sexuality are no longer and issue.

After a little bit of research however I realized far more informed people out there were already doing a fantastic job of documenting this issue in some major detail. So instead of adding yet another mouthpiece to what others are doing a spectacular job at, I thought instead I'd give some of those people a shout out , because I didn't know their sites or articles existed until today and you might not know about them either.

So, after the jump we've got Star Trek gay character site info, for sites that look at this ongoing issue. Kudos to them.

Xena reunion movie with Xena and Gabrielle?

What's this we hear, does Rob Tapert - the former producer of TV's Xena: Warrior Princess - want a reunion for the show? He's been chatting to Scifi Wire and said "pretty much everyone involved in the old show would love to see Xena (Lucy Lawless) pick up her chakram once again for a TV movie or some other kind of reunion project".

Don't go booking your ticket for the movie just yet though, he goes on to say they've spoken about it before and not much has come of it, still doesn't hurt to cross your fingers does it. A Xena reunion movie would be awesome. Come on Tapert, make it happen!

Gay scifi characters - Ron D Moore talks Virtuality and gay characters in scifi

We covered the inclusion of gay characters in upcoming scifi series "Virtuality" back in August when we'd hoped it was Clea DuVall who was the "Virtuality" queer. We're bringing it up again because AfterElton have just run an interesting interview with "Virtuality" creator Ron D Moore (he made Battlestar Galactica too!). In the interview Moore discusses gay characters in scifi and why he believe it's just not the done thing.

It's a good read and the comments that ensued post article are pretty interesting too, so be sure and check it out. We did note that upcoming "Battlestar Galactica" spin-off series "Caprica" got a mention also and it sounds like their may be a little gay character goodness in that one also. Here's hoping.

Is Sarah Connor Chronicles about to be cancelled? Rumors suggest termination imminent

Looks like Sarah Connor's fight for the future might not include saving the show named after her. Rumor has it "Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles" is in trouble and might be for the chop. The second season of the show has disappointed with the ratings numbers and there are those in power that feel it's damaging long running series "Prison Break".

A Fox source told scifi site SyFy Portal "Our biggest surprise are the 18-to-49s [a key advertising demographic], those numbers are in the toilet." With numbers in the toilet many are now speculating Sarah Connor's days are numbered and she might finally be terminated, not by SkyNet, but by Fox.

Megan Fox as Aspen Matthews from Fathom?

Michael Turner is barely cold in the grave and the "Fathom" movie based on one of his most famous comic book characters is in the news again. Word this week that hot young thing Megan Fox has signed on the dotted line to take on the role of Aspen (Fathom) Matthews. There's no official confirmation, so time will tell, but buzz is despite Michael Turner stating - just prior to his death - that the "Fathom" movie was no more, here it is again.

As actresses go Fox is a hot property right now and she has the sex appeal to pull off the role of Fathom, but does she have the smarts and innocence also related to that character? Time will tell. For the moment though it's all a splash with little concrete to go on. Larger images after the jump.

Admiral Cain heads to "True Blood"

Hey "Battlestar Galactica" geeksters, we've got more BSG casting news. One of your favorite BSG ladies and lady lovers - given her character was in a relationship with Gina in BSG - has turned in her Admiral pips for fangs it seems. Michelle Forbes (aka Admiral Cain BSG) is said to have signed on as a regular in vampire drama series "True Blood".

No word on whether she'll be a fangbanger or a vamp, either way we think she'll be fangtastic! If you like your somewhat dark, overtly sexual vampiric drama, you should probably check out "True Blood". Now if I can just get past the main vampires (Bill) onscreen anti-charisma I might be able to enjoy the episodes Forbes appears in.
