Being Erica the Cassidy lesbian connection

I've been watching a little Being Erica for work recently and was surprised when the show threw up a lesbian storyline (Episode 1.9 Everything She Wants). Being Erica also features a lesbian couple within its framework (though rarely appearing). This is a quirky show you might enjoy, even though the "lesbian" storyline was a little cliche in action. As for geek factor, it's about a time traveling 30 something, what more can a geek want. There's also an episode called "Erica The Vampire Slayer". Check it out online (Canada) or on DVD.

Well we're still in our Pandora induced daze, but as promised we've got our full Avatar Review for you right here. We'll try and differentiate this review from the plethora of others online because we'll make a point of examining the cool female characters within the overall story. Yes, this will of course include - lesbian favorite - Michelle Rodriguez and her part. So let's get to it shall we?

Astrid Farnsworth and Walter Bishop a love story

If you've been watching the second season of Fringe, you may well be enjoying - out actress - Jasika Nicole's character of Astrid Farnsworth and her interactions with Walter Bishop. This season the relationship between the two has really come into its own and it is truly adorable. There's nothing sexual in it, but there is definitely love between the pair and what a wonderful pairing they are. Both of their performances have been fantastic thus far and will no doubt continue to be so. Now if they'd just write in a little crush between Astrid and Olivia, now that would be a love story of epic proportion. Wouldn't that throw the "Olivia and Peter will get together" crowd into a tizzy.

Your Avatar review is coming!

We wouldn't be lesbian geeks unless we went and experienced James Cameron's latest offering. Yes the man who has brought us - let's face it - some pretty cool female characters is finally back after a 12 year break with Avatar. We'll have a full review up tomorrow with our thoughts and feelings on the movie, which won't at all be biased by thinking James Cameron is fantastic.. really... oh okay, maybe a little.

Ming Na's Camille Wray the super bitch lesbian stereotype?

So I've been catching up with - the rather dire - Stargate: Universe and I have to say I think Ming Na's lesbian character Camille Wray is about as likable as Charles Manson, for the most part. She seems to swing from frightened, to bossy, to overbearing, to even outright hostile and mostly with little reason. The best - and more serene - part of her character has so far has been her visit home and the touching scene between her and her partner Sharon. Of course this will all go out the window when SG:U returns in the new year and Camille Wray body swaps and her character sleeps with a dude.... ewwwwy.

Janis Hawk in FlashForward is "Super Gay"

Oh thank the Gods, I was honestly beginning to think Janis was going to hook up with the dude doctor in FlashForward, as with many "lesbian" characters in mainstream TV. Turns out though Janis is - by her own admission "super gay". This made a nice change, though she still falls into the 'every lesbian wants a baby' role, which some may see as tired old hat (mind you a trip to IKEA on any given day might suggest this particular cliche is true). It will be interesting to see where this character goes, assuming of course this show actually survives.

Rhona Mitra heads to Stargate Universe

Sadly though it's not to get hot and heavy with Ming-Na's character, now that would be frakkin awesomeness! Word is Mitra will play Kiva the commander of "an alien incursion force". She'll be in a multi-episode arc which will tie in with the final episode of the season. If you're a geek grrl, you probably already know who Mitra is given she was the original Lara Croft model, she played Sonja in the last Underworld movie and she kicked some ass in post apocalyptic movie Doomsday. Ahh that voice, those eyes, okay I need a cold shower.

Akira live action movie still on the cards?

The rumor mill is churning over once more about the long awaited Akira live-action movie. Apparently the script may be penned by Children of Men and Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Well that sounds fairly promising. Here's hoping it gets off the ground, though these things never seem to be as great as the original.

What do you think of Warehouse 13?

Who the heck is watching Warehouse 13? I've seen a fair few episodes and I gotta tell ya, I'm a bit confuzzled as to why it seems to have broken every viewing record held at the SyFy Channel. It's not a bad show by any means, but the best rated show ever for SyFy, with a growing audience? Seriously, are you watching it and if so, what is it about it that's so magical?

SyFy FAIL the GLAAD gay character trial but will get better

Science Fiction fans are probably already aware of the issue of gay characters in their favorite series and SyFy has paid the price for lack of inclusion. The channel received an fail rating in GLAAD's recent Network Responsibility Index for their depiction of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) characters. Unlike other failing channels however, SyFy has come forward and said they are disappointed with the rating and are working on the issue.
