Lat den Ratte Komma In or Let the Right One In by J. J. Abrams

If you're a regular you may recall we covered a little Swedish horror film back in March this year called "Lat den Ratte Komma In" (Let the Right One In). We thought this looked really interesting at the time and apparently we weren't alone, given news J. J. Abrams has just purchased the rights to it.

You might be able to see the original in selected US cinemas, as it releases there tomorrow (Oct 14). If you missed it the first time around, you can check it out here, including the trailer. It will be interesting to see what - if anything - Abrams does with this.

iPhone Cthulhu on way - Cthulhu

Not sure if this one should be a crossover with sister site Lesbian Gamers, but we're reporting it here due to the geek tie in. Call of Cthulhu is headed to the iPhone courtesy of Spanish mobile phone content developers Digital Jokers. Digital Jokers Mobile has more than 5 years experience in development and marketing for mobile content, so here's hoping they do a good job on this, or "The Great Old Ones" might get irritated and pull out their spleens and feed them to Shub-Niggurath.

According to the presser Digital Jokers are adapting the Call of Cthulhu adventure game "Call of Cthulhu: Darkness Within" and that it is perfectly adapted to the touch screen interface of the iPhone. A demo of the game will be presented some time this month and personally I can't wait!

Juno returns for The Descent 2 - Yippee!

Hey guys, sorry no news end of last week, we had major internet outage here at the LG HQ so couldn't post, still we're back now and with some news we think is pretty geektastic! Juno is back! No not the pop culture talking pregnant kid, the cool - if a bit nuts - caving hottie from the Descent.

You may recall we mentioned creepy cave movie The Descent 2 way back in June and we hoped Juno would be returning. Now word is out she is and better still, she's still in the cave, so she's either totally lost the plot, or worse no doubt. Think BSG's Kendra Shaw, only underground in a dank dark cave full of nasties.

Original Descent trailer below and Juno pics after the jumperoo:

Girls Rebel Force of Competitive Swimmers

Girls Rebel Force of Competitive Swimmers! All girls swim team and some lesbian loving, sounds pretty cool. Throw in a mad professor type with a penchant for turning innocent students into maniacal psychopaths and you've got the makings of a Hong Kong D list gore-fest.

Luckily for the school the water in the pool is a kind of antidote to the bloodthirsty maniac making virus, so the girls swim team, led by big shouldered Aki (who also happens to be a trained assassin) can kick some serious ass. Sure it's probably really bad, but hey it's cute Asian girls making out and kicking ass. If it sounds like your thing you can buy it at Play Asia.

Call of Cthulhu guff for horror geeks

Giant evil overlords your thing, well, what you need is a little Cthulhu in your life. Cthulhu-also known as Cighulu, Cathulu, Kutulu, Ktulu, Kthulhut, Kulhu, Tulu, Clulu, Clooloo, Q'thulu, Thu Thu Hmong-is essentially a giant super being waiting to take over the world.

Cthulhu first appeared in the 1928 novel The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft and has gone on to gain 'cult' status (muhaha) in many a geek outing, from video games, to board games and of course tabletop RPGs.

LesbianGeek has done the rounds and found some pretty cool Cthulhu guff for you to add to your geek collections. Why we have everything from the El Profundo Mayan Replica to Cthulhu Tupilak Idol (which incidentally looks like a terrifying sex toy, but that's not why we've included it... honest!).

    Women's Studies - truly horrific

Women's Studies is being touted as a horror film and from what we've seen of it 'horror' would tend to be the right word for it. The protagonist is a young career driven girl (Mary) who finds out she's pregnant and through what appears to be contrived events ends up at a private school for psychotic feminists girls.

"Feminism - it's not a dirty word you know" - "You say it to some people they think butch baby killing lesbians". What people are they exactly? *groan*

At the school of course they're all men hating nutjobs and we spotted at least one "lesbian" moment, because let's face it, this ticks all the boxes of lesbianism, young innocent girl [check!], man hating [check!], militant feminists [check!] and of course murderous intent, generally towards all men [check!]. We'd yawn but we can't be assed, so we've just gone for bitchy sarcasm instead. You can check out the trailer, including some terrible acting below. The best part - watching Mary go psycho Dana Fairbanks at the end... class.

    Zombie Survival Kit

Wasn't sure if this was more gadget than horror, but we've stuck it in the horror section because zombies = horror. What we have here (picture after the jump) is a wall mounted Zombie Survival Kit, presently on eBay for a brain chomping $280 (at time of writing).

The seller states "If you're like any normal person, you probably live in constant paranoia of the impending "Z" war: the zombie uprising." The zombie uprising it seems can be dealt with by hanging a pretty cool framed shotgun and shotgun shells on your wall. We at LesbianGeek prefer hurling LP's, but if you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, you won't get that joke. Full pic after the jump.

Let the Right One In – Lat den Ratte Komme In

Horror fans and particularly vampire fans heads up, this one is for you. Lat den Ratte Komma In is a Swedish film based on the work of writer John Ajvide Lindqvist. It follows the story of Oskar, a 12 year old boy who is the victim of bullying and his relationship with Eli a girl who turns out to be a vampire.

It sounds kind of childish, but it’s actually very dark, disturbing and adult (as the trailer attests). Magnolia Pictures has gained the rights to Let the Right one In, so one can assume a US remake will be in the offing shortly, or they do the unthinkable and market a classy foreign film to a US audience. Now wouldn’t that be nice.

    Here’s the trailer.

    Jennifer's Body by Diablo Cody

Diablo Cody, she sprang out of seemingly nowhere with the smash movie 'Juno' and soon she'll be working on her next project a horror film called 'Jennifer's Body'. The film will follow the story of a possessed cheerleader that turns into a killer. Her specialty (which is of no relevance to the fact we're a lesbian site) is offing her male classmates.

Jennifer's Body stars Transformers beauty Megan Fox and Amanda Sayfried (probably best known to lesbian viewers as Lilly Kane in Veronica Mars). Jennifer's Body starts filming in a couple of weeks, the only downside is that it's said to be "in the vein of Heathers", which was a love it or hate it movie, for me, it was definitely the latter.

Cthulhu movie – a gay horror

Lovecraftian and Cthulhu Mythos fans heads up, it’s Cthulhu and its queer. Okay so it’s boy queer and it has Tori Spelling in it and there didn’t appear to be an actual Cthulhu in it, which lets face it is a good thing or we’d all be rolling sanity and losing 1D100 sanity points! Those negatives aside I thought I’d better bring it to the fore lest Shub-Nigguruth drain me of my bodily fluids.

Cthulhu has done the whole film festival rounds and has come up with some of the most polar opposite reviews I’ve ever seen. Some suggest this film is awful, bad acting, too long and ‘too gay’. Others suggest it’s a sublime take of the Cthulhu Mythos and its relevance in a modern tale. Here’s a couple of trailers for you to either enjoy, or detest.
