Telectroscope connects London & New York

We know quite a few of our readers reside in the Big Apple, whilst others reside in the UK. With that in mind we thought some of you would love this. The Telectroscope is a steam punk looking 'telescope' that joins New York and London. The term 'Telectroscope' was thrown around in the late 19th century and used mirrors and other gadgetry in its blueprints to 'connect' New York and London in real time.

Technology has come a long way and now the Telectroscope is real, though it isn't a huge underground tunnel as depicted in the *original blueprints. Now it's a modern piece of installation art, one situated at London's South side of the river near Tower Bridge and the New York end at Fulton Ferry Landing near Brooklyn Bridge. The installation is sadly only on from now until June 15, so be fast.

If you want to arrange to 'meet' a friend at a specific time you can contact this site with your request to be fast tracked at a specific time.

We suspect those 'original' blueprints and the back story may be an artists vivid imagination, but it's cool either way.

    Star Wars: the Clone Wars

Star Wars: the Clone Wars is a new animated feature by George Lucas (because he hasn't milked Star Wars enough yet). The Clone Wars differs from the other Star Wars films as it's essentially a CGI cartoon (sure, kind of like Episode 1, without the flesh and blood actors).

Whether it's good or bad remains to be seen, though many Star Wars fans themselves appear to be non plussed about it's release in August this year. We at Geek HQ think it looks pretty cool, it has a nice style, but style is nothing without a good story, so we'll just have to wait and see.

You can check out the trailer below:

    Love Story 2050 Bollywood sci-fi

Bollywood films always leave me feeling the same way when I see the trailers for them. I always think they look pretty good, in an over the top camp kind of way. That's exactly how I feel about Love Story 2050, a new futuristic Bollywood blockbuster that released this year.

If you're having a slow day at work, head over to the Love Story 2050 official website and check out the story synopsis, it will have you in stitches. Love Story 2050 looks totally geektastic with a Bollywood twist. Oh and it stars Priyanka Chopra, ho is easy on the eye, but we prefer Aishwarya Rai.

    Tripod equal geektastic THAC0

We're a hugely geeky site here at lesbian geek.com, we love the geek on a very deep level, it's what we're all about. When we were tipped off (thanks Collypops) there was a site that outgeeked us, we of course thought "what? Nooo, it isn't possible!", but alas twas true and we loved the site so much we thought we'd share.

The site in question belongs to Tripod, they're an Aussie comedy act and they're all total geeks. Their performances include pop culture referencing of a geeky nature and they even do a song about gaming for our sisters at LesbianGamers. If you're a tabletop RPGer from way back, check out their site, it's very cute.

    Lisa Loeb Geek Girl

Isn't it cute when girls in glasses like geeky things. Even cuter when guitar girls turn out to be massive geeks. Lisa Loeb is one such geek. Gadget lovers 'Switched' gave her a Q&A and it turns out Lisa is a Mac, Blackberry and Facebook fan.

Lisa Loeb loves her Macbook Pro and Blackberry Curve, two items she takes with her everywhere. Sadly for our sister site Lesbian Gamers Loeb isn't much of a gamer. When she was asked what the longest time she'd spent playing a game in one sitting was she replied "Tetris... maybe four hours.... I had to give the game boy away because it had become a crazy addiction." Ahh well, can't have Tina Fey looks, play guitar, be a geek and a hardcore gamer, that would be too much to wish for.

    Starbuck's Father pontification

We like to pontificate here at Lesbian Geek (minus the garish robes and hats), especially over the Battlestar Galactica universe and its characters. We're veering away from our theory that Leoben may be Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace's father and we've got another thought and if you don't want to know what that is, don't read the next section.

Our thought was this, does Saul Tigh play a mean piano? We've pondered this question a bit lately, because we know Starbuck's dad apparently did, we also know he was a military man. We also know Starbuck and Tigh are really not that different in personality. So the question is, could Tigh be Starbuck's father?

The Rising social network by Steven Spielberg

Ever been abducted by aliens? Seen any aliens? Seen a ghost? Think you're from another planet in your very soul. Well looks like it's Mr Steven Spielberg to the rescue for you then when he launches his new social networking site called "Rising" (or "The Rising") in a few months.

The Rising social network site will feature original content and a MySpace style social network in which members can share their ghostly / alien stories. This is a pretty cool idea, but you know it's going to end up with a group of idiots that go on there and make stuff up, which kind of detracts from those that might have stories they feel are real and true. We'll bring you more as it happens (assuming we're not abducted by aliens and whisked off to a more peaceful planet). In the meantime if you want a Spielberg fix, check out the Lesbian Gamers Boom Blox review.

    Lady Robotika - Jane Wiedlin

Remember Jane Wiedlin, her of GoGo's fame? Strangely I always had her pegged as a lesbian, but apparently she's bi with a penchant for S&M... anyway, that aside, Ms. Wiedlin has a new comic book coming out called Lady Robotika.

The Star Wars Blog covered the comic and referred to Wiedlin as "Go-Go’s guitarist, geek goddess, Star Wars fan Jane Wiedlin!", well if she's a Geek Goddess she's alright with us!. Lady Robotika will debut next year and features Jane in the role of the eponymous hero Lady Robotika who is kidnapped by aliens and turned into a cyborg superhero.

    Drake's Fortune gun

So you don’t like playing with real guns, but it’s kinda fun now and again to play with pretend ones right? Especially if those pretend guns are replicas of cool ones you’ve seen in your favorite TV show, movie or video game.

Well now fans of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (PS3) are able to buy an airgun that looks exactly like Nathan Drake’s. The full metal M92 airsoft pistol holds around 25 rounds, features realistic blowback and comes with a very funky free aluminium case to put it in. It’s developed by King of Swords and weighs in at the hefty price of $169US, but let’s face it it’s a must have item for the airsoft lovin lesbian geek girl.

We love it here at Lesbian Geek when gaming and geekdom crossover and this is a perfect example of it. Seriously, there are some lovely lesbian geeks out there who will take great joy in watching your re-enactment of Drake’s heroics with his sidekick Elena Fisher. The only thing is, in some screenshots of the game, Nathan Drake doesn't look like he's using a Beretta 92f (even in the pic we've used here)... hmmm.

Is Felix Gaeta from Battlestar Galactica gay?

Felix Gaeta was singing like a choir boy in this weeks Battlestar Galactica and that canned it for me, I thought this dude is gay. Not that all choir boys are gay, or that those boys with sweet little voices are either, but there's always been something about Gaeta that twanged the gaydar.

Oh wait, there it is... he doesn't look at women.. that might be it. He always seems to be looking at guys, not lustfully really, but then he never really looks at women with a hint of want either. If Felix Gaeta isn't gay then something is up, even his name is ([ˈgeɪ.ɾə] or "gay-tah").
