Top Lesbian TV Geek

We got to thinking about what TV series got our lesbian pulses pounding and we’ve come up with a geek list of some of the coolest lesbian geek TV series and reasons why we think they were / are pretty cool.
Sure Battlestar Galactica is going to make the list, but we’ll also be looking at some older geek TV that got our attention, either for overall plot or perhaps particular characters that we fell in love with. If you’ve got any ideas for additions you can leave them in the comments, or send it through as a news tip and we’ll add it.
Lesbians like TV, not a huge leap to make because people generally enjoy TV regardless of sexual preference. The same can be said for the types of TV lesbians love, but we’re going to completely generalize in order to come up with a list of the top lesbian geek TV shows.
You know these lists mean little to some people because let’s face it we all have our own likes and dislikes, but where these sorts of lists can be handy is in the dissemination of information that perhaps may include things you may have otherwise missed. So perhaps you’ll learn something new and begin to enjoy a series you may have not seen.
Let’s get to it.
The X-Files
With the new movie coming out later this year X-Files fans are pretty excited. For many lesbians it was Dr Dana Scully that had a lot of lesbians loving The X-Files more than perhaps they may have if it took the form of say Supernatural with two male leads (though many lesbian geeks enjoy this series). Gillian Anderson was cute in those early seasons, but also smart, which many lesbian viewers and viewers in general seem to have truly enjoyed. If you missed The X-Files when it first came out. Perhaps seeing the new movie later this year will spur you to watch the original series.
Xena Warrior Princess
What can we say, a lot of lesbians almost worshiped Lucy Lawless in her role as Xena, not to mention cute little sidekick Gabrielle and a subtext of hot lesbian love story. What also made Xena such a lesbogeek series was the overall camp nature of some of the sets and indeed some of the shows. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer (coming up next) Xena even had the funky musical episode. Xena may take some viewers quite a few episodes to become hooked, but then a lot of the good series do.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
As if a lead female kick ass demon and vampire slayer wasn’t cool enough, Buffy the Vampire Slayer also featured a wonderful lesbian love story in the later seasons. Importantly here the lesbian love story was very ‘there’, but without much ado. This made Buffy a great series for lesbians and it was easy to become geek obsessed with the show or even the couple of Willow and Tara.
Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined series)
Despite only ever having one lesbian relationship in the Battlestar Universe and one that only appeared in the TV movie Razor, Battlestar Galactica kicks ass as a drama series with strong female content. Yes despite falling into the science-fiction genre, BSG is definitely a drama series that just happens to be set in a sci-fi universe, and is therefore open to even the sci-fi haters (gasp). Battlestar Galactica also features female characters that, though not lesbians, could very well be.
Star Trek
Most of the Star Trek series have characters and / or stories that will appeal to a lesbian geek. Perhaps it’s Captain Kathryn Janeway that you truly enjoyed, because she was a female Star Fleet captain which was really cool. Maybe you enjoyed Ro Laren with her dyke vibe, or Dax with that sad lesbian storyline. Whatever it may be the Star Trek universe holds a lot of fun for the lesbian geek, if you can get past al the technobabble and silly sets.

Ah Xena. I think that was one of my roots when I was younger. Plus Gabrielle was my first crush and I didn't even know it at the time.

I love Xena and Buffy. It's funny that of the five shows, Lucy Lawless starred or appeared in three of them.

*sigh* all the ones I would hang my every breath on for about 40 minutes a day. Loved a whole bunch of the series mentioned, especially Buffy, and Xena. Now there'd be a kick arse duo.
I got all choked up when Tara died.. It was so sad.
And some of the adventures Xena had, I loved it when they got a bit more serious, being crucified by Julius Cesar would have been sucha set back for anyoen else, and all their trips around Asia. Gosh. I loved when Callisto received forgiveness, and Xena was saved from Hell..

One show not up there i think, probably because it's a little more resent...but no more so than firefly, is Veronica Mars.
That show had spunk and the odd lesbian story line, it should get a honorable mention I think.
Xena was, and still is my life. my mother watched it, I watched it when i was young and only yesterday i watched it just cos i was bored. Buffy too is amazing and kinda filled the gaping hole that was left when Xena ended. Brilliant as buffy was the relationship of Xena and Gab was one of a kind, however buffy did establish Joss whedon as my god! - seriously... I pray to him, just as I do Steve Jobs my apple overlord lol (I Jest).
And yes Lucy Lawless is one of the most, if not the most, amazing straight actresses a lesbian fan could hope for, her support of the community seems endless.
